Whether you’re just getting to know someone new, and you want to take them on a spectacular first date, or you’ve been with your special someone for years, and you’re looking for something really romantic, New York City is the place to be. The Big Apple has tons of wonderful venues and activities to offer for every kind of date imaginable.
If you’re new to the city, or you’re looking for new ideas for great dates, check out this incredible list of the best date ideas for New Yorkers.
Stroll Through Central Park Zoo
The Central Park Zoo is a great daytime date on a sunny day. During feeding time, you can see the sea lions do all kinds of fun tricks, not to mention how incredible it is to see all of the other animals up close, as well. Don’t miss the adorable red pandas, and when you’re done, you can go for a walk in the park or go grab dinner and a beverage nearby.
Dine at the Mermaid Inn
This delightful restaurant has more than one location, but we always prefer the East Village location if we have a choice. The Mermaid Inn has flattering, mood-appropriate lighting, and the food is delicious. Plus, at the end of your meal, the “Fortune Teller Miracle Fish” will tell you if your date is jealous or passionate! If you believe in the fish’s mystical powers, the two of you can plan your next date (or run screaming from each other). If not, you can still have a great laugh.
Play Skee-Ball at Full Circle Bar
A Williamsburg favorite, Full Circle Bar has free skee-ball, and the well drinks are cheaper than just about anywhere else in New York. If you’re just getting to know each other, or you’re looking for a great regular weekend date spot, this is a great one for young Brooklynites.
Take a Kayak Tour
Want an active daytime date that? Take a kayak tour around the city! The tour guides are friendly and knowledgeable, and the tours are actually really easy. So, whether you’re a pro at kayaking, or you’ve never even gotten in a kayak in your life, you’ll have a blast on this non-traditional date.
Surprise Them at PDT
Want to show off to a date who’s new to the city? PDT (which stands for Please Don’t Tell) is a speakeasy-style bar that requires reservations. It’s a really fun one if your date’s never been there and doesn’t know about it because you’ll take them in through a hotdog stand. Then you can watch their look of confusion and disappointment turn to surprise and delight as the two of you are allowed in through a secret door in a phone booth to the left!
Take Flying Lessons Together at Trapeze School
There are multiple places all over the city where you can take trapeze lessons together. It’s a workout, and it’s a lot of fun. If you’re afraid of heights, or you don’t want to admit that your biggest workout of the week is marathoning your favorite show on Netflix, then this isn’t the date for you. If you’re feeling adventurous, though, go for it! You might end up running away to join the circus together!
Learn to Make Your Own Drinks at Apotheke
Finally, located in Chinatown, Apotheke is a great place to spend a Saturday learning to make some of the best drinks you’ll ever taste (and, of course, tasting them). The two of you can bond over your favorites, and then you can set another date to show off your new bartending skills for each other at home.
